A troupe of traveling players, led by the mysterious Leading Player, invites the audience to watch the story of Pippin, the young son of King Charlemagne. Pippin is searching for a life that feels extraordinary. He looks for it on the battlefield and in his father’s court, and he comes up empty each time. When he finally finds a quiet life with a widow and her young son, the players have other plans, because they have promised the audience a grand finale. Stephen Schwartz’s score includes “Magic to Do” and “Corner of the Sky,” and this circus-inspired version won four 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical.
