The COVID Chronicles – Tales and Vignettes
Join us for an evening of laughter as we perform a light-hearted compilation of COVID tales adapted from stories shared by our York community.
DreamWrights’ first “production” of 2021 is set on the Outdoor Stage in the evening of April 23.
Anyone can submit a story. Anyone can audition to perform in the vignettes. Anyone can come and watch with us.
How this works
We will adapt a selection of vignettes from the true tales that YOU submit about this past year. Each tale will then be cast from pod groups (“Pod-Casts”) that audition on March 22.
What constitutes a “Pod-Cast?”
A group of people you have been in close proximity with and are comfortable being around without a mask. “Pod-Casts” will rehearse together in person and perform on our outdoor stage. Directors will be masked and distanced.
Have an idea but don’t think of yourself as a writer?
Fear not – jot down your ideas and let us adapt them for you!
Writing prompts to get you started on your COVID story:
How you handled boredom, New projects or hobbies, New games you played,
Good and bad things you did, Toilet paper, Being home together, “Did anyone see that?”, Holidays, Zoom, Pets, Outdoor activities, Embarrassing Moments, Not ready to laugh about that yet, Where were you when…?, Quarantine breakout
Length of story – one to three pages. Simply share your true story, freestyle in your own words – no dialogue, roles, etc. Leave that piece to our adaptors! Winning stories will be adapted into short vignettes. Will your tale make it to the stage? Send in as many as you like!
February 28 – Story Submissions due. Entry form is electronic and allows for anonymity. Submit your story here.
March 29 – Auditions. Live Auditions in pods of 2-5 – your whole pod must audition together. Auditions will consist of cold reading of cuts from the vignettes. Sign up here!
