Twenty-five years ago, in the middle of a prairie outside of Laramie, Wyoming, a young man lay bloody, bruised, and bound to a fence. He died several days later from the attack. His name was Matthew Shepard. He was victimized because he was gay. The Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to the small town to conduct over 200 interviews to create The Laramie Project, a deeply moving play that chronicles a community grappling with the aftermath of this heinous crime. This play was adapted into an acclaimed HBO film in 2002 starring Laura Linney, Steve Buscemi, and Bill Irwin.
