General Audition Information – 2025

Auditions are open to everyone! Past theatre experience is not required.

DreamWrights offers a welcoming environment where people of all ages are invited to learn about the process of bringing theatre to life.  We are committed to inclusion and acceptance, responsibility and respect, and creating an atmosphere of curiosity and collaboration. We are strongly focused on ensuring a positive experience for all members of the Company from the first meeting through the final performance.  Involvement in the production process at DreamWrights often leads to expanded self-esteem, creativity, and confidence.  Many participants in DreamWrights productions frequently mention wonderful friendships, intergenerational connections, and our strong sense of community. DreamWrights is a wonderful place for individuals as well as entire families to learn and grow!

Preparing your audition:
You are encouraged to schedule your audition appointment in advance. Check the individual show page on our website for audition dates.  DreamWrights members may schedule an audition slot before they open to the general public. Become a member today! While it is strongly encouraged to audition by appointment, you can audition without one. Just show up at the start of any audition to add your name to the queue.

Once you have scheduled your audition, you will want to complete your audition form.  Please be sure to refer to the rehearsal schedule posted online, and note any scheduling conflicts on your audition form.  Bring this form with you to your audition appointment.

Each audition page will provide information with materials (scenes, monologues, or songs) to prepare for the audition. We will have copies of these available at the auditions as well.  Prepare the material to the best of your ability, so you can feel comfortable and enjoy your audition.

Please come to auditions in comfortable clothing and footwear.  Please wear closed-toe shoes that allow movement.  Flip-flops or sandals are not permissible for auditions.  If you have longer hair, please be sure that it is pulled back so we can see your face.

Following your audition, you may be invited to a callback audition.  This means that the director was impressed with your audition and would like to see more.  If you do not receive a callback, this does not necessarily mean that you will not be cast in the production. At callbacks, you may be asked to read for different roles and with different people.

Casting decisions are typically made the day after the final evening of callbacks.  All casting offers are sent via the email address you provide.  You will be asked to confirm your acceptance of the role with an email.

Production Support Fee:

Once the show has been cast, the rehearsal schedule will kick off with an Information Night for you to learn all about the DreamWrights experience. This meeting is required for all participants. If you are offered a role in the production, the production support fee of $20 (members) or $30 (non-members) must be paid on the Information Night. The fee may be paid by cash, credit card, or check payable to DreamWrights. Scholarship funds are available to cover all those in need. For scholarship assistance, please contact Ann Davis at annd@dreamwrights.org Actors will also be measured for costumes at this time.

Participating in Crews:

DreamWrights offers many opportunities to be involved behind the scenes.  You may become part of the Leadership Team as a Production Stage Manager or Assistant Stage Manager, coordinate details as a Production Coordinator, or serve on the Scenic Crew, Properties Crew, or Costume Crew.  You might also become a Lightboard, Soundboard, or Spotlight Operator.  If you would like to participate in a Crew, you do not need to audition.

Instead, simply complete the audition form available on the show page, and return it to DreamWrights by the first audition date.  You may also email the form to info@dreamwrights.org. Crew positions will be offered via email with a request to confirm acceptance via return email.

If you have questions regarding auditioning or participating in a DreamWrights production, please contact info@dreamwrights.org or 717. 848. 8623.
