Our spellers are ready for the Putnam County spotlight! Today, we are pleased to introduce to you these six spellers who hope to turn their dreams into reality! Join us as we host The 25th Annual Putman County Spelling Bee, June 22, 23 and 24 at 6:30 pm and June 24 and 25 at 2:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 717-848-8623 or online.  Advance seats cost $10 for general, $14 for reserved. General admission seats at the door cost $12. Some content may not be appropriate for younger audiences.

William Barfeé

Speller No. 13
William Barfeé
Grade: 5th
Age: 11
School: Cold Spring Country Day

Profile: William says he is determined to be a finalist at the Putnam County Spelling bee this year. As a finalist last year, he was forced to drop out due to a medical emergency. He enjoys foot exercises and cultivating his sea anemone circus that he keeps in his basement. When he grows up he wants to be a handsome scientist.

 

 

Leaf Coneybear

Grade: 8th
Age: 13
School: Homeschooled

Profile: Leaf describes himself as active and upbeat. He enjoys petting animals and warm, snuggly blankets. Sewing is his favorite pastime. He is excited but nervous about receiving the surprise nod to participate in this year’s Spelling Bee, and he hopes to make his family proud.

 

 

 

Olive Ostrovsky

Age: 12
School: Garrison Elementary

Profile: This is Olive’s first time participating in a spelling bee. Her favorite book is the dictionary and she reads it every chance she gets. She says she can find fun in any word. Olive describes herself as self-sufficient and hopes to make lots of friends when she grows up.

 

 

 

Marcy Park

Age: 13
School: Our Lady of Intermittent Sorrows

Profile: Marcy is good at everything and makes a hobby out of mastering every skill. In school, she skipped grades in order to better challenge herself academically. She is fluent in six different languages and finds spelling to be easy. Marcy has had much success in her life including qualifying for the national spelling bee a number of times. Last year she placed ninth in nationals.

 

 

Logainne SchwartzandGrubenierre

Grade: 5th
Age: 10
School: Magna Magnet Grammar School

Profile: Logainne is a self-described feminist who enjoys yoga and political speech and debate. She is the President of the Gay-Straight Alliance at her prestigious elementary school. She spends her free time protesting at political rallies. She is looking forward to the next presidential election and hopes to someday meet her mother. She says she enjoys spelling because it makes her dads very proud.

 

 

Chip Tolentino

Charlito “Chip” Tolentino
Grade: 6th
Age: 12 3/4
School: Cypress Bay High School

Profile: Chip is returning to defend his title as winner of the 24th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. He is a boy scout who enjoys baseball and hanging out with friends. He is good at tying knots, selling popcorn, and building fires. He earned his forensic patch after finding a human toe in the woods.
