You may have heard of Orpheus. This play belongs to Eurydice. When she dies on her wedding day and descends into the underworld, she finds a place that is strange and gorgeous and slowly pulling her memory apart. But her father is there, and he has been holding onto everything she is starting to forget. Sarah Ruhl’s celebrated play is funny and heartbreaking in equal measure, and it asks a question most of us have carried at some point: what would it mean to be remembered by someone who refuses to let you go?
