COVID Care: Masks are welcomed but not required, at this time. This is subject to change based on case loads. If you are not well, we ask that you remain at home to protect others from illness.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

We offer 100% refund up until 30 days prior to camp/class start date and 50% up until 2 weeks (14 days) prior to start date. If you choose to withdraw less than 2 weeks before (including during the camp), no refund will be offered. If DreamWrights cancels a class/camp due to low enrollment, a full refund will be given.

COVID Protocols

  • Door side drop-off and pickup (reducing numbers in the building).
  • Limited camp enrollment for each camp.
  • Staff and participants are welcomed to wear masks for their protection.
  • Daily outdoor time when possible.
  • Keep all illnesses at home!

We recognize that these protocols are difficult on many levels and we are committed to providing a safe space for campers.

“Oh, the thinks you can think!”  Young performers over the course of this two-week performance camp explore music, movement, acting and more as they bring to life classic Dr. Seuss characters in Seussical KIDS.
Week One consists of auditions, music rehearsals, staging, choreography, and memorizing their lines to be “Off-book”. 
Week Two continues to explore the music, text, and movement by running the show. We also welcome the members of the “What the Tech” camp as they implement the elements of lighting, set, props, and costumes for Seussical KIDS. 

A ticketed public performance will be presented on Friday, July 1st at 3:30pm.  

Week 2: June 27 – July 1

What the TECH! Behind the scenes of Seussical KIDS
Grades 5-10  (9:00 am-4:00 pm)

Go behind the scenes! This camp provides the opportunity to learn about the art of creating scenic design, lighting, costumes and props for live theatre. Come and explore how to enhance the experience by bringing Seussical KIDS to life on stage.

A ticketed public performance will be presented on Friday, July 1st at 3:30pm.

Week 3: July 5 – 8  (4-day camp Tues-Fri)

Broadway’s Back (Again!)
Grades 1-4 (FULL), 5-9

In this interactive musical theatre camp, students will stretch, tone and condition their theatre skills though choreography, singing techniques, and acting using songs from well-loved musicals. Through discipline and artistic expression, students will strengthen and develop their performance skills in a multidisciplinary environment.

A combined Sharing will be presented on Friday, July 8 at 3:30 pm.

TWO WEEK CAMP:

Week 3 & 4: July 5 – 8 (4 days) & July 11-15  (5 days)

Puppet Production: Avenue Carlisle
(2 week camp, plus 2 Saturday performances – July 16 & 23 at 3:00pm)

Avenue Carlisle is an original sock puppet play about community devised by the particpants. Learn it all from building the sock puppet, crafting the script, and designing the show. Be a part of this creative ensemble to execute this world premiere play under the direction DreamWrights Artistic Director Gregory DeCandia and Puppetmaster Joanna Underhill . Develop and design this new work over the course of a two week intensive that is fast paced, multi-faceted, and FUN!

Avenue Carlisle will be presented Saturday July 16th & 23rd at 3pm as a family-friendly alternative to the more adult Avenue Q. 

Participants MUST BE AVAILABLE for ALL camps days (2 weeks) and the two Saturday performances on July 16 and 23 at 3:00 pm.

TWO WEEK CAMP:

Making a Musical –  Lost Boys  (Part I: Creation)
TEEN CONSERVATORY Ages 12- 18 (5:00-7:00 pm)

PART I of this two week camp allows young artists to sing the music for the first time, dabble in harmonies, choreography, and language as we establish this unique magical world of LOST BOYS. Be the first to read the text in verse, delineate and design characters for the show, experiment with songs as we create them, and play in this devised ensemble piece. PART 1 will be an exciting celebration of completely new material, perfect for courageous artists who have ideas, perspective and who want to be an integral part of a devising ensemble. We can’t wait to work together on this new musical – and we need YOU! 

Participants do NOT have to take both Part I and Part II to participate.
LOST BOYS is an original TYA musical in verse developed in collaboration with young artists about identity, presence, time, and the things we lose and how to find them.… where the lost boys are actually girls. Created by Kate Brennan composer and lyricist of the new musical ALiEN8 opening September 16th at DreamWrights.

Week 4: July 11-15

Let’s Play! The Little Red Hen
Ages 3-5 (Morning session 9:00 am-12:00 pm OR Afternoon session 1:00 pm-4:00 pm)

It is never too early for your child to start loving theater and DreamWrights is the perfect place to begin. Your little one will learn theater concepts through fun, meaningful, hands-on activities including games, crafts, story time, music, and creative play.

A presentation of “The Little Red Hen” will be held on Friday, July 15 at 11:30 am for the morning session and 3:30 pm for the afternoon session.

Concrete Canvas! Making a Mural – I
Grades 2-8 (9:00 am- 4:00pm)

Make your mark at DreamWrights as we beautify 30,000 square feet of outdoor canvas with our Mural Arts Initiative. Young artists will go through the process of executing a mural from prep to paint (and clean up!) Be a part of the community by leaving a lasting legacy here in York!

Week 5: July 18-22

Aria – The Art of Selling a Song
Grades 5-7  (9:00 am-12:00 pm)
Grades 3-4  (1:00 pm- 4:00 pm)

Take your musical theatre auditions to the next level. Work with members of Opera Susquehanna on selecting and perfecting an effective 32 bar cut of a song. Vocalists will spend the week preparing for a mock audition on the final day of camp.

Movie Musicals
Grades 1-4 (FULL), 5-7

Campers will learn the fundamentals of singing, dancing, and acting through an exploration of classic movie musicals. Through discipline and artistic expression, students will strengthen and develop their performance skills in a multidisciplinary environment.

A combined sharing will be presented on Friday, July 29 at 3:30 pm.

Music Video: Concept to Creation
Grades 4-9 (9:00 am-4:00 pm) (FULL!)
Tuition: $240, DW Member $216
Teaching Artists: Jay Schmuck & Ralph Washington

Utilizing a video camera, participants will learn the ins and out of making a music video from concept to creation. Using the original music of Cultural Alliance of York’s 2021 Artist Innovator Award Winner Ralph “Real” Washington, these young filmmakers will devise a storyboard, gather props and costumes, choose locations (including green screen locations), set lighting and shots, rehearse, and then shoot. 

Week 7: August 1-5     

Let’s Move! Dance It Out!
Grades 1-4 (9:00 am-4:00 pm)
Tuition: $240, DW Member $216

This week is all about movement! Participants will learn a variety of dance moves from Jazz, Musical Theatre, Tap, Ballet and Contemporary styles throughout the week culminating in a public sharing on Friday August 5 at 3:30PM.

Put a Pin In Summer: Beach Bag & Sunglass Construction
Grades 5-10 (9:00 am-12:00 pm)
Tuition $115, DW Member $103.50 (1/2 day camp) 
Teaching Artist: Rebecca Eastman

Hang on to summer a little bit longer by creating your very own beach bag and sunglass case. Take your sewing to the next level by constructing button holes and inserting zippers with DreamWrights’ former costume designer Rebecca Eastman. 

Participants must provide their own fun fabric (made of cotton) and consisting of at least one yard.

Week 8: August 8-12     

Capture & Create
Grades 3-6 (9:00 am-4:00 pm)
Tuition: $240, DW Member $216

Take your photos to the next level!  Budding photographers will learn the basics of photography as a jumping off point to create their own works of art.  Using a Cell Phone, Tablet, or any camera students will investigate their surroundings for inspiration. Students will then create “found art pieces” focused on discovered treasures. Think screws, bolts, rocks, lace, store loyalty cards, dried up markers, bobby pins, guitar picks, anything! 

Students must provide their own device.

 

SCREAMwriting: How to Pen the Perfect Thriller
Grades 6-10 (9:00 am-12:00 pm)

During this one week intensive, writers will learn the basic elements of taking an original idea, translating it to the page, then working out how to bring it to life on the stage OR screen. Combining the importance of research and art of the play, participants will explore the process of penning the perfect thriller!

 

Acting Up: Monologue Audition Workshop 
Grades 7-12 (1:00 pm-4:00 pm)

This one week intensive will give participants the tools to build confidence auditioning for plays. Together we will learn professional tricks of the trade for relaxation, performance, vocal technique, and the art of cold reading. The week will conclude with a mock audition the final day of camp. 

Participants will be required to prepare ONE comedic or dramatic monologue prior to camp.

Thriller: The Secret to Shooting a Suspenseful Short
Grades 6-10 (1:00 pm- 4:00 pm)

What makes people sit on the edge of their seat, yelp in fright, and leave the theater wanting more? We’ll demystify the titillating genre of thrillers by deconstructing the element of suspense: mood, music, pacing, conflict, and creativity. Utilizing our recording studio, video camera and sound equipment, students will learn the ins and out of creating a top-to-bottom short movie production.  They will write the story, gather props and costumes, choose locations (including green screen locations), set lighting and shots, rehearse, and then shoot.

TWO WEEK CAMP:

Making a Musical: LOST BOYS (PART II: STAGING)

Join us for PART II as we curate and hone the raw material generated in PART I. Together we will solidify the script, learn music, practice harmonies, make bold character choices, and test the possibilities of our piece in rehearsal and performance. PART II will be an excellent opportunity to play, rehearse, sing, dance, and will culminate in the first-ever workshop of this new musical. Be a part of creating a new musical that will premiere at the end of the year!
